Somerset Hills Artist Shares Talent and Tradition in Featured Artwork

Walton ArtworkThis year's featured artist for Music at Moorland is Peapack resident Betsy Walton. Music at Moorland is an annual evening of classical music, open-air dining and spectacular fireworks on the lawn of Moorland Farms in Far Hills. One of Ms. Walton's original works depicting the event will be featured on promotional materials for Music at Moorland, which benefits Somerset Medical Center.

Walton began painting in oils as a child, and with encouragement from family and friends, she continued to share her art with others throughout the years. With a passion for painting landscapes, gardens, and animals in oils and watercolors, Walton was eager to paint her vision of Music at Moorland. She and her family have supported the event since its inception, and love the tradition of attending each year.

"Music at Moorland is an amazing evening with such a great cause, and the community at large benefits by it in such a special way," Walton says of the annual event. "To be able to paint the artwork for the invitation was an honor and one that I was most happy to do. My mission was to paint a watercolor that was bright, happy and fun-really what the evening is all about."

Walton studied art at Denison University and spent a year in the south of France, painting at the Leo Marchutz School of Art in Aix-en-Provence, where she gained an appreciation for painting in the open air. She found that working outside helped to truly capture the spirit and life of her subjects.
